To qualify for consideration and possible inclusion in the 2011 Inc. 500|5000, companies must have been founded and generating revenue by March 31, 2007 and be US-based privately held for profit enterprises. Qualifying entrant companies are then ranked according to the percentage of revenue growth when comparing 2007 to 2010.

The top 5000 list represents the best of American entrepreneurship, setting the standard for independent achievement in the US market.
